Your Custom Builder Low-Maintenance Decks

Salt Lake Composite Decks

Synthetic decking is a popular choice in Salt Lake for its low-maintenance, high durability and stunning design options. You may know composite decking by one of the brand names such as Trex, AZEK, or Timbertech. Choosing low-maintenance decking for your new deck or redecking project is a great investment for improving your outdoor lifestyle, the potential sale of your home in the future and the time you’ll save without having to stain, seal or power wash your deck ever.

What is Composite Decking & Synthetic Decking?

Composite decking is a term used to describe the first generation of synthetic decking that hit the market about 20 years ago from early brands such as Trex. Today, we use the umbrella term synthetic decking to encompass the three varieties of low-maintenance decking, composite, PVC & capstock. PVC decking is 100% synthetic, made entirely of cellular PVC. It offers unmatched durability and fade resistance. Capstock is a hybrid, consisting of composite interior wrapped in a PVC shell. Composite decking is a combination of ground plastics, wood & fibers and is an improved version of the original low-maintenance decking product. Our deck design team will work with you in the design phase to choose the low-maintenance decking that is right for you.

There are a few major brands of synthetic decking to choose from such as Trex, AZEK and TimberTech. TimberTech & AZEK have recently merged, combining their best products to offer an extensive line of fantastic composite decking. We typically recommend TimberTech & AZEK for their large variety of colors and fully capped composite. But we have been known to use Trex decking for special requests and we love their deck drainage systems.

What Are the Benefits of Synthetic Decking?

Synthetic decking is adored for its low-maintenance. With wood decking, you must stain/seal your deck at least once a year to protect the deck from weather damage. Composite decks, PVC decks & capstock decks will never have to be stained, sealed, painted or even power-washed. A mild soap and a sponge or a garden hose should do the trick of your composite deck gets dirty. While the lack of maintenance required is certainly all one needs to hear, there are a plethora of other benefits associated with composite decks:

  • No splinters
  • No fading
  • Slip resistant
  • Increased home value
  • Long lasting durability
  • Fabulous color options
  • Design flexibility
  • 25-30 year warranties
  • Lower long-term cost
